ABOUT LEGOLAS

Born in the Great Wood to King Thranduil and Queen Calenwen, Legolas is a Sindar Elf Prince of fair features and fairer heart. Described as youthful in spirit and cheerful in nature, Legolas harbors a deceptive serenity that often catches his opponents unaware. He is proficient with a number of weapons, including The Bow of the Galadhrim gifted to him by Galadriel, and dual Sindar blades he has carried since before joining the Company of the Ring.As a member of the Fellowship, Legolas journeyed through the Mines of Moria, to Amon Hen, across Rohan, and into Edoras. He passed through the Paths of the Dead, fighting alongside Aragorn both at the Battle of Pelennor Fields & at the Gates of Morder, and saw the fall of Barad-dur.With Sauron defeated, Legolas attended both the coronation of Aragorn as King & his wedding to Arwen. He remained in Middle-Earth until Aragorn’s death, then sailed to the West with his dear friend, Gimli.

PERSONALITY

Outsiders are often blinded by Legolas’s fair features, perceiving him as a being of natural good cheer and uplifting spirit. But upon closer acquaintance, Legolas is found to be a soft-spoken Elf with a deep well of powerful emotions he rarely displays to the world, lest those emotions spill out beyond his careful control. He carries a contemplative air about him, but is easily captivated by simple pleasures and silly jokes. And while the prince finds it easy to forgive trespasses against his person, he has been known to hold a fiery grudge against those that harm his friends.

Little is known about Legolas’s childhood behind the veil of Mirkwood, only that he was born to King Thranduil and Queen Calenwen as a Sindar Elf Prince of fair features and fairer heart. It is said that Legolas’s mother passed when he was very young, creating a rift in his relationship with King Thranduil that only became increasingly strained as the years passed, driving the young elf towards independence and solitude even before he had reached maturity. In TA 2941, Legolas fought in the Battle of the Five Armies, seeing it to conclusion before he departed from the Woodland Realm and sought his Noldor kinfolk at the First Homely House of Imlradris. There, he developed a friendship with the human named Estel. The pair would adventure together over the course of years while Estel masqueraded as Strider, occasionally parting ways only to find each other once more, forever bonded by friendship and an innate closeness that would last their entire lives.Legolas eventually returned to Mirkwood in TA 3017, accompanied by Estel, who was tasked with the imprisonment of Gollum in King Thranduil’s dungeons. While Strider departed from the Green Wood, Legolas remained to serve his father. He was present during Sauron’s attack on Mirkwood and Gollum’s resulting escape from captivity.Following these events, Legolas traveled as a messenger of Thranduil to Rivendell, his intent to inform Lord Elrond of Gollum’s escape. Instead, he was drawn into the Council of Elrond and volunteered to serve as a member of the Fellowship that would escort Frodo Baggins’s company to Mount Doom, so that he might destroy the One Ring of Power. Legolas departed Imladris in the company of the Nine, including Estel (now revealed as Aragorn) and Gandalf the Grey. He accompanied the Fellowship on its long journey into the south, through the Mines of Moria, and continued to follow Aragon’s lead after Gandalf’s assumed death. During this time, an unlikely friendship between the Elf and Gimli, Son of Gloin, sprung to life.At Amon Hen, the Fellowship divided, and Legolas travelled with Aragorn and Gimli in their chase across Rohan in search of Merry and Pippin. In Fangorn Forest, the trio discovered the Hobbits were safe and that Gandalf had returned as Gandalf the White. The Wizard led them all to Edoras, where Legolas fought alongside the Men of Rohan. At the Battle of the Hornburg, he slew at least thirty-nine of the enemy, by his own count. After journeying through Rohan, Aragorn elected to take the Paths of the Dead, and Legolas accompanied him, along with the sons of Elrond. With this Grey Company, Legolas travelled through the darkness beneath the White Mountains, where Aragorn made alliance with the Shadow Host, and then on through the southern lands of Gondor to Pelargir. There, Legolas fought alongside the Dead Men as they captured a Corsair fleet. It would be in the Battle of Pelargir that he first heard the crying of gulls, awakening in him the sea-longing, which filled Legolas with the desire to sail into the Undying West.Following their arrival south of Minas Tirith, Legolas fought alongside Aragorn in the Battle of the Pelennor Fields. After the battle, he again followed Aragorn to the hopeless diversionary assault on the Gates of Mordor, and so was present at the downfall of Sauron. After the Fall of Barad-dur, Legolas was present for Aragorn’s Coronation, as well as his marriage to Elrond’s Daughter, Arwen the Evanstar. He remained in Ithilien until the death of Aragorn in 120 of the Fourth Age, traveling with his companion and dear friend, Gimli. After Aragorn’s passing, Legolas gave in to the sea-longing and sailed into the West. Legend tells that he took Gimli with him in departing.
